A NOTE ABOUT THE RECOMMENDED READING SERIES:

In an age when the re-writing of history has become a major industry for many, the Mountain Observer has invested hundreds of hours, and will continue to do so, in sorting through the mountains of literature that document, or allege to document, history, and the ideas of mankind.

This is a Conservative web site, so it is focused on facts, and truth, in the singular sense as understood by Conservatives.  This does not mean that we have accumulated here everything out of the mouths of conservatives, or screened away everything liberal.  It does mean that what has been culled for inclusion are works that make a useful contribution to the great debates of history, and our time, assembled by standards that prior to 1960 used to be understood as a Liberal Arts education from a disciplined Conservative perspective.

I dedicate this effort to my grandsons, who in today's climate of "education" will otherwise never have a chance to know.  Your suggestions and comments are welcome, as would be some volunteer research assistance.  JES

This site is updated when I take the notion, in Jefferson, Colorado, where the air is thin, the night sky full of stars, and the hunting and fishing are good.   A freewheeling conservative resource dedicated to the defense of Freedom, the next generation, the way things ought to be, and the reversal of the entire progressive project.

To understand this website, it is necessary that you are able to read and to think.
