HUMAN RIGHTS vs. TOTALITARIANISM

                                                                                                                                                                Home Page

As you can see, this is a new page  (05/02/05) that will bring sharper focus on the problems faced by individuals around the world in confronting totalitarian regimes, the lack of freedom, and the absence of elementary democratic recourse.   Contrary to the received wisdom of certain elites, history did not end with the collapse of the Soviet Union.  History continues with vast tasks ahead.  Today, in the United States, there are those, out of a genuine concern for human rights, who have remained affiliated with the Democrat Party, incorrectly perceived as the ongoing vehicle of Liberalism in its more original better sense.  As a Conservative, I witness much intellectual corruption in that perspective.

However, it is the purpose of this page to recognize and encourage further dialogue with principled Liberals to the extent that we, in fact, share a mutual concern and interest in extending freedom in the vision of Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Pope John Paul II, and more recently George W. Bush.  As a Conservative Nationalist American, the Mountain Observer views this issue as one of American national interest, narrowly defined as a matter of self preservation in a world of proliferating WMD and statist thugs.  As a human being, Jim Sohmer, Nazi atrocities forever engraved on his mind as a toddler, says that disrespect for the elementary human rights of others, as manifest in the 10 Commandments and our own national founding, is wrong, and deserves our attention.  It is for these reasons that I was persuaded to begin my political life as a Democrat.  It is for the same reasons that I voted twice for Ronald Reagan and never looked back.  Incredibly, there are those still out there who do not "get it", but that is not the point of this webpage.  The point here is not politics, but people, and the support and pursuit of individual initiative and proper national policy regarding human rights, and life.   In the end, what is life all about?  There are those of us who believe that Higher Authority is watching.    JES
