CHOICES BEFORE US- A CONSERVATIVE LOOKS AT 2008
2008: THE RIGHT CANDIDATES FOR THE GOP :
For President
09/05/07 Fred's in the race: "I'm running for President of the United States of America". Fred has been criticized by some who contend he has waited too long to announce. Actually, the timing is early by historical standards. I would wonder at the timing of the announcements of other candidates, Democrat and Republican; way, way early. All this early activity reflects the depth of polarization of politics today in the United States. You will hear Fred speak much of "security, unity and prosperity" in the months ahead, as he addresses a key concern about the threat to the United States occasioned by international IslamicFacism. He will also take on the difficult task of directly addressing the brick wall of entitlement spending towards which the nation is racing. His calculation is that the ordinary voter is better prepared to consider the problems of terrorism and big government entitlements than the politicians. For more, got to http://www.fred08.com. The Mountain Observer supports this candidacy as representing the best ELECTABLE option for Conservatives in 2008. We shall see. JES

09/05/07 Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-CA The right guy for VP www.house.gov/hunter/
THE WRONG CANDIDATES FOR THE GOP, or, people who I would consider to be politically obnoxious :
Senator George Allen R-VA ? He's a Senator, an alleged conservative favorite. I say no.
Senator Bill Frist R-TN Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was right about "girliemen". I am getting sick and tired of "nice" people in politics. In addition to being unable to "slap people up along side the head" in the Senate, as an unintended consequence, "nice" people like Frist cause wars.
Senator John McCain R-AZ An unprincipled ego-maniac. No private sector experience. No history of executive responsibility. The POW experience, clearly exemplary, is not a substitute for policy substance. Finally destroyed himself beyond recovery over the issue of amnesty for illegals.
Senator Chuck Hagel R-NE John McCain Jr. Very Jr.
Ex-US House Leader Newt Gingrich Sadly, a well educated individual fallen victim, professionally, to ego-mania. His track record in following through on the implementation of the "contract with America", a series of generally good ideas, in 1995/9 was awful. He is not an executive, and not really even a good politician. His mother fed him too much sugar.
NYC Mayor, Ret. Rudy Giuliani Fails badly on social issues
09/0/07 Rudy takes a nosedive: Declares illegal immigrants are not criminals. This is what you have to expect from someone who is a product of New York City. Otherwise, go visit http://www.catholicsagainstrudy.com/ for another perspective on this pious Catholic hypocrite. Go Fred Go. JES
NY State Governor George Pataki Out of touch with the GOP, let alone Conservatives, nationally
FL Governor Jeb Bush Out of touch on the border issue, and his name is Bush.
Representative Tom Tancredo R-CO Occasionally I make mistakes, and this one is embarrassing. I am back to my original assessment that Tancredo is unqualified as a candidate for President. He is properly on the right issue, illegal immigration and the border, but he is too much a single issue politician and has recently shown very bad political judgment in his support of certain other candidates. At a national level we have no time for amateurs or single issue obsessions.
2008: DEMOCRAT SWEEPSTAKES:
03/25/07 Keeping track of Hillary Rodham: http://hillaryspot.nationalreview.com/
01/27/05 "Moderate" Democrat Evan Bayh, IN, takes himself off the table as a potential candidate for the Presidency by joining those pandering to the far Left in voting against confirming Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State.
03/24/05 Hillary is the only one in the party with any brains, which given her Left Wing Statist credentials (a polite way of saying she is a marxist) makes her very dangerous. However, Republicans should not allow themselves to get alarmed. Allowed to do so, Hillary will self-destruct. The more she opens her own mouth, the better.

NORMAN HSU AND FRIEND
TRACK RECORD FOR DEMOCRAT CONTENDERS SINCE 1960:
1960 John F. Kennedy (D) Wins Screws up Bay of Pigs. Gets us started on Vietnam. Faces down the Russians/Cuba (After Khrushchev
pushes him around). Gets taxes cut (Good for him)
1964 Lyndon B. Johnson (D) Wins Screws up Vietnam.
Saddles taxpayers w/War on Poverty which after 3 billion dollars spent from then till now appears to have been a total waste.
1968 Hubert H. Humphrey (D) Loses to Richard M. Nixon. Humphrey, an old school Democrat, was caught up in the backlash against
the war.
1972 Geo. S. McGovern (D) Loses Gets his head handed to him by Richard Nixon
1976 Jimmy Carter (D) Wins. Beats Gerald Ford, many believe, on the strength of Ford's pardon of Nixon for Watergate.
Economy goes all to hell. OPEC runs amok with oil prices. Carter botches everything to do with Iran, and is fearful of
killer rabbits.
1980 Jimmy Carter (D) Loses Gets his head handed to him by Reagan
1984 Walter F. Mondale (D) Loses Gets his head handed to him by Reagan
1988 Michael S. Dukakis (D) Loses Gets his head handed to him by Bush 41
1992 OJ Billyboy (D) Wins. Bush 41 forgets his pledge not to raise taxes, saddles the country with the lawyer friendly Disabilities
Reform act & tries to take the GOP back to the center. The Cold War is over, and who needs those old guys any more anyway?
Who needs a pretend Liberal when you can get the real thing?
1996 OJ Billyboy (D) Wins. GOP runs slow moving Bob Dole & the boomer gens hope OJ Billyboy will protect them from all those
mean Republicans they had just elected in 1994 after OJ Billyboy had raised their taxes in 1993 after promising not to and Hillary
scared everybody to death with her socialized medicine scheme. Besides, the working premise now was that war was a thing of
the past, and OJ Billyboy was a lot of fun. OJ Billyboy dallied in the Oval Office as al Qaeda festered. Nero fiddled as Rome
burned. If this all sounds loopy, it's because it was. The whole decade was loopy and out of touch with reality.
2000 Al Gore (D) Loses. Close call, and the Supreme Court had to remind the Florida court that it had to follow Florida law, but after
this, and a major effort by Democrats to invalidate military votes, it all added up to a Bush 43 victory, eventually validated to the
satisfaction of even the New York Times. The Liberal elements of the Democrat party come unglued with conspiracy theories, and
panics at the thought of a Nazi invasion.
The attacks of September 11, 2001 happen.
2004 John Franchurian Candidate Kerry (D) Loses.
This is interesting because on almost every issue, at one time or anther, John Franchurian Candidate Kerry has taken polar
opposite positions, and several in between. So it can be said by most people that depending on the day of the year, and the
status of his menstrual cycles, sooner or later John Franchurian Kerry agrees with you on everything. I'm not sure even OJ
Billyboy ever reached this level of political creativity. Did this work on election day? It did not.

If you look at the shifts of Electoral College votes among the states caused by the 2000 Census, the changes were worth a total of 16 votes in Bush's favor nationwide in 2004.
