05/01/07 Ah, yes, today is May Day, the religious point on the calendar for communists everywhere. Watch them all celebrate their hatred of America, George W. Bush and American Conservatives everywhere in the world. General David Petraeus, carry on. JES
04/24/07 So Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid D-CA, using his official position, instructs President Bush, General David Petraeus, and the Nation that the war in Iraq (in the shriveled brains of the Left something apparently separate from IslamicFascism) has been lost and that the "surge" is not working. Now the fact of the matter is that, at least since 1992, major elected Democrat officials have almost routinely engaged in what Originalist Americans describe as treason. In the present circumstances we are actually at war, and properly so, against evil forces whose clearly and credibly stated purpose is to destroy us. In the opinion of the Mountain Observer, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid D-CA is a traitor, and ought to be dealt with according to the law, as originally understood, forthwith. The Mountain Observer is absolutely beside himself with anger. General David Petraeus, carry on. JES
01/14/06 I have not addressed the subject of California, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, for a long time. There has been no need to do so, as things have worked out essentially as I predicted back in October of 2003 in this very same Mountain Observer [Ref: 125 LETTER 03-08 ]. I repeat here exactly what I said at the time, following Arnold's successful campaign against Grayout Dufus:
"Well, well, well. As I previously predicted, Arnold Schwarzenegger (barring further intrusion by the courts) is going to take the helm in California. As you may surmise from my previous comments on this matter, I think it remains to be seen how this is actually going to work out. Where do I begin? Some facts:
1) Arnold is not a Conservative, he is a very talented, and well intended, hustler.
2) The L.A. Times is not a newspaper, it is a leftwing political rag.
3) After OJ Billyboy, Democrats can’t condemn Arnold, and Republicans can’t excuse him.
4) The California Legislature is still what it was, a domestic version of the French National Assembly.
5) The southern border with Mexico is still wide open.
6) The people of California, through the agency of Grayout Dufus were destroying the state. Now the people of California are proposing to fix the mess, sort of, maybe, they hope.
7) Upon taking office, an immediate freeze on hiring and a cancellation of all planned and pending pay raises would signal seriousness, including judges. I don’t expect that to happen.
Questions to be answered:
1) Can some combination of political will be realized that will permit the tax cuts necessary to staunch the hemorrhaging of business out of the state? That is what is required.
2) Can some combination of political will be realized that will accept the even greater cuts in spending necessary to balance the budget and work out the deficit? That is what is required.
I am, shall we say, skeptical. I am not persuaded that even Arnold really understands what needs to be done, let alone able to accomplish what needs to be done even if he understood. California Republicans have now really set themselves up big time. Tom McClintock, stand by. Going into 2004, I think Carl Rove should regard all this with great caution. There is a reason why Conservatives are always skeptical about great bursts of democracy. We shall see. In all of this, there is one definite positive; the pending recovery of the national economy [which may help]."
Since that time the Terminator successfully promoted an additional 3 billion dollar obligation on stem cell research to pursue objectives of dubious scientific and political value, and has utterly failed to pursue reforms necessary to preclude a repeat of the great California energy crunch of 2002. Now he has allowed the California Teacher's Association (CTA) to make a monkey of himself with the defeat of 4 reform propositions following an absurd political strategy. The common thread throughout his tenure has been his belief in the power of his own "fantastic" self, as if he could talk and charm all the Lefty's into political submission. In none of this has there been any philosophical consistency other than Arnold showing off. His response to all of this is to haul on board as "help" an additional claque of Lefty's. This is what happens when you find yourself stuck in bed with the Kennedy's. The Terminator, having tried to play in the middle, is a traveling train wreck, and so is California. Like a Phoenix, Tom McClintock is still standing by. I pray for California. JES
12/13/05 Upon further investigation it turns out Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger does not have it right. He made the right decision for the wrong reasons. Turns out I learn that Stanley Tookie Williams never confessed, indeed proclaimed his innocence. On this basis, the Gov. proclaims there can be no redemption, and he is correct. Here the confusion sets in, the Gov. seeming to imply that with the proper contrition on William's part, he, the Gov. might have considered extending redemption. I would hope that is not the case, but so it seems. If so the Gov. has himself confused with God, a common Liberal error, and giving the Gov. the benefit of the doubt, unintended hubris. The correct basis of the Gov's decision is that under the processes of American law, properly applied, Stanley Tookie Williams was found guilty of 4 counts of cold blooded murder, California law calling for capital punishment. There were, of course, victims of his depredations who deserved a measure of justice, an expense to the state, and the need to ensure the public's future safety. I would trust God to have the final say concerning redemption. JES
12/12/05 The clock runs out on Stanley Tookie Williams, as it ought to. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has it right. Williams will shortly answer to the Big Guy in the Sky. JES
12/12/05 There is a point to be made about the matter of Stanley Tookie Williams, convicted killer, and Crips street gang founder, that, to the best of my knowledge, no one else will make. It has to do with the collision between Secular political correctness, and Christianity. William's supporters, consciously or unconsciously, are attempting to use what they falsely believe are Christian arguments for mercy and forgiveness on William's behalf to save him from execution tomorrow morning. They say he has reformed himself, at least partially evidenced by a new jailhouse (San Quentin) career authoring children's books. Maybe he has and maybe he hasn't; as a matter of fact, nobody can really know. With the failure of the California Supreme Court late Sunday to grant a stay of execution, the only remaining option appears to be an appeal of clemency to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. On the premise that all legal avenues have been properly exercised, Williams and his defenders are left only with arguments of his personal reformation. Presumably, the Courts have ruled properly on issues of secular law, as they should.
The Governor will be asked to find it in his heart, in effect, to "forgive" a reformed man. The fact of the matter is that it is beyond the Governor's ability to make such an assessment, and we hope he understands that. We also hope that the Governor understands that if he folds to William's pleas, the Governor will have further encouraged a dynamic of phony reformation for future killers in human clothing. It is predictable that a "how to" manual would be written. It is beyond the Governor's charter in this life to offer forgiveness in the ecclesiastical sense, and like the Courts in this matter, he should discharge his duties under the state law of California. If, in fact, Stanley Tookie Williams, is what he now says he is, he should have no fear of Judgment before the Lord, who will not be fooled, and seek his peace in heaven. Here on earth, there are others sufficiently qualified to instruct aspiring gang members on the likely consequences of their chosen careers, by example. JES
03/17/05 Actor Robert Blake is off the hook with respect to the charge of murdering his wife. Apparently there was a lack of sufficient evidence, like, for example, a murder weapon. I have no reason to doubt that the jury properly did its job given the evidence presented, but it needs to be pointed out again that in a case like this it is important to recognize that a disposition of "not guilty" does not equate to "innocent". We have no way of knowing the man's actual guilt or innocence, but Robert Blake and the Lord does, with the case finally to be decided at a time, point future. JES
