The purpose of the Mountain Observer Website is to provide objective and factual analysis of the political, economic and cultural condition of the American Nation, and to recommend and advance appropriate Conservative direction.

Over the last few years Conservatives have realized increasing success in communicating with the American people about the failures of Statism. The Mountain Observer intends to continue its focus on this process, first recognizing that there are significant differences among Conservatives themselves which must be sorted out, ultimately by the American electorate. It is the purpose of this website to assist in communicating the issues and the options on a more broadly popular level, and to advance some new thinking, in certain areas, in the Conservative discussion. The political orientation of the Mountain Observer is best described as American Nationalist Conservative.
More specifically, as an editorial policy, the following principles will be observed:
The premise of American National Conservatism is that the ongoing survival of the American Project, or Idea, is a function of an educated understanding, preservation and, as necessary, recapture of the founding (originalist) principles of the Republic, including a recognition and acceptance of the fact that the legal and cultural foundation of the Republic itself rests on a Judeo/Christian Faith and Tradition, under one God, who created everything.
A further premise of American National Conservatism is that there is a unique American character and vision of ourselves that is a product of our national foundation, and freedom, documented by our Constitution as originally understood and strictly respected.
American Conservatism is not an ideology at all, but a process of organic analysis of the world as it is, accepting human nature as it is. On the other hand, “progressives”, and under this umbrella I include all the various manifestations of secular humanism, consider human nature malleable and improvable, generally through secular state action, inevitably with the help of a sledge hammer. Thus the various ideologies Statism. Thus the horrors of the Twentieth Century. The American Founding initiated a Divinely inspired experiment in republican democracy, unique in world history. It is our purpose to defend the experiment, from ourselves.
The Mountain Observer will insist on documentable academic soundness in its thesis. Our purpose is to present the Conservative message based on objective reality.
We will not debate with collectivists. We will dissect their ideas and destroy them. We have too much important work to do to be uselessly distracted.
Within these guidelines, as further detailed, third party participation and commentary are welcome and invited.
* Nothing has changed regarding the purpose or intent of the Mountain Observer, however, the world around us moves. Almost exactly 5 years ago I predicted "if" (it happened) that an "emasculated Republican party" prevailed (2000) the "national disgrace of elitist Liberal Statists in control of Washington, D.C. [would] continue". That is more or less what has happened. In spite of control of the White House, and nominal control of Congress, the Republican party still operates in fear of Democrats who themselves have become a national embarrassment. Under a continuing statist mentality across party lines, government has not shrunk; it has grown. The value of cheap illegal labor from across our southern border still trumps respect for the law and our originalist cultural values, and in a newly realized international climate, our national security. Policy decisions, appointments to office, and the law itself, continue to pivot on the criteria of politically correct multicultural "diversity" at the expense of a priority on competence and qualification. God continues to be harassed from the public square. National leadership, not only in government, but also in the press and academia, acts apologetic, and frequently hateful, of an originalist America. Education is in a state a national disgrace. The Court system remains out-of-control in the hands of judges who freely re-write the law as they see fit.
True Conservatives are making some incremental progress, here and there. We have a very powerful ally. The Truth is on our side.
